Godzilla #6
Dark Horse (November, 1995)
“Target: Godzilla” part 2 WRITER/BREAKDOWNS: Arthur Adams PENCILER: Tatsuya Ishida INKER: Daniel Rivera COLORIST: Albert Deschesne COVER ARTISTS: Kevin Maguire & Arthur Adams COVER COLORIST: Dave Nestelle LETTERER: Clem Robins DESIGN: Mark Cox EDITOR: Robert Vincent Conte
Cameron is happy that his curare/cadmium mix seems to have knocked out Godzilla, hoping to learn the monster’s secrets. However, the Dinaii want a good hunt and revives him. The cadmium, however, has (for now) disrupted his radioactive breath, but he has other methods of fighting. Too bad the hunt has taken them into Portland, Oregon.
What they got right: Giant aliens hunting Godzilla. That’s something I’ve never seen before and thankfully the execution is as cool as the concept. The mystery of Cameron deepens as his bodyguard has to remind her CO that Take and Kate are still there. The art is still good.
What they got wrong: Although the Asian folks still don’t look Asian. This is also the second story in a row in which Godzilla’s nuclear breath has been extinguished by the humans’ actions before facing a more powerful enemy. Is this going to become a pattern?
Recommendation: Still encouraging you to buy these comics. Dark Horse’s run is a must-have comic run for Godzilla fans. I like the Marvels, but this is so much more like Godzilla.
