Battlestar Galactica #4

Times like this I wish I was back on the Ponderosa.

Classic Battlestar Galactica #4

Dynamite (2007)

WRITER: Rick Remender
ARTIST: Carlos Rafael
COLORIST: Carlos Lopez
SELECTED COVER ART: Dave Dorman
LETTERER: Bill Tortelini

The Galactica gets a stray SOS using a new code. Adama decides to take a chance but only stays outside the system. On the planet Starbuck and Stadra link back up with the others as they succeed in stealing a Cylon transport. Collecting everyone, they head back to the fleet, with Stadra having a disk containing the library data Starbuck and Boomer had been searching for. Everything seems fine, but the transport was a Trojan horse. Stadra is killed…because the Cylons have invaded the Galactica!

What they got right: Had the story ended here it would have been a great finale and happy ending. There are some good characters, and the end is satisfying. However, they didn’t and the idea of Cylons using this situation to sneak aboard the Galactica isn’t a bad idea.

What they got wrong: But with the length of this arc this story feels tacked on. I’m also not sure that Starbuck and Stadra were close enough that she had to be fridged for Starbuck, which is where I think this is going. She was a good enough character on her own, which wouldn’t fit her too well in where the TV series would go.

Recommendation: This is still some of the best classic BSG storytelling I’ve read. Fans should be tracking this one down.
