The Transformers #73
Marvel (December, 1990)
“Out Of Time!” WRITER: Simon Furman PENCILER: Andrew Wildman INKER: Stephen Baskerville COLORIST: Nel Yomtov LETTERER: Rick Parker EDITOR: Rob Tokar
Galvatron tries to get Xaaron to awaken Primus, and Unicron sends Hook, Line, and Sinker to investigate. Galvatron defeats the other two but Hook seeks revenge…until Primus is finally awakened. On Earth, the Neo-Knights enter the fray. Circuit Breaker goes after Scorponok but when Nightbeat, under Optimus’s insistence that they need the alliance to stop Unicron, tries to talk her out of it Shockwave takes a shot at her and she blames Nightbeat, going after him an Optimus. Then Blackrock sees Shockwave (responsible for the attack that led to Josie being paralyzed) and point him out. Josie/Circuit Breaker then unloads everything on him, just as Primus awakens. Primus takes out Hook, then calls all of the Transformers back to Cybertron. One of the Autobots (I think it’s Nightbeat) is in contact with the Neo-Knights’ helicopter, so they come along, too. Meanwhile, the Creation Matrix is active again, and seeking revenge!
What they got right: I have to give credit where it’s due. Letting Josie take out Shockwave was a good move. The Primus plot is finally mattering and leading to the #75 battle with Unicron.
What they got wrong: For all the need for revenge Circuit Breaker must have, which she’s taken out on every Transformers (again, the only time she actually attacks a Decepticon is when she shouldn’t and still finds time to go after Autobots), you’d think she’d get to have a much more interesting battle than one huge zap–that doesn’t even disable him as we’ll see next issue. And the Neo-Knights are still going to be in this story!
Recommendation: I may have been able to find enough positives to go back to format but this is still a terrible comic that I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
