Godzilla #7 (DH)

I bet Godzilla wasn’t expecting this when he woke up this morning.

Kazushi and Reiko attempt to convince the hunters to stop hunting Godzilla around Portland. While the Dinaii seem to be taking down Godzilla they make the mistake of using an electrified net, waking Godzilla from the curare-induced stupor and he begins to make short work of his hunters. Meanwhile, Cameron brings Take and Kate with his group to explore the alien ship, where they find an alien is left behind. Cameron has her taken out and his team are revealed to be aliens themselves…space gorillas which the lady on the ship called “black-holers”. Yeah, Godzilla fans know where this is going.

What they got right: I don’t know if they got the rights or found a loophole to getting the Black Hole Simians into this comic, but nice work. It explains why they co-designed the MechaGodzilla stand-in Cybersaur and the All-Terraintula. In official canon they created MechaGodzilla (attributed to humans in other continuities, including the other two movie timelines) and Titanosaur.

What they got wrong: The alien on-board the ship is said to be speaking English, but the letterer gave her the same “<…>” brackets used to denote something being translated into English. And why did Cameron take Take and Kate to investigate the ship when he had to know they’d be found out? Then, when one of the soldiers fries himself on the booby trap to the ship’s door, does he not seem to care that their cover was blown? Actually, he hasn’t seemed to care since the ship landed, but being this nonchalant when running an operation…well, I guess that’s a spoiler for next issue. It just feels off. And the Asians still look Caucasian.

Recommendation: Adding the Black Hole Planet 3 aliens to the comic just upped the fan recommendation for this series.
