Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is a popular Christmas song (my second favorite) and special, the latter celebrating 50 years since it’s original NBC airing (later moved to CBS where it recently aired). I always thought the song came first, but both was actually based on a book by Robert May, which began as a giveaway from Montgomery Ward. This came up in Brian Cronin’s latest “TV Legends Revealed” posting, asking if the special would have been different had Rankin/Bass found said book? See, you learned something this Christmas.
