Disney’s Darkwing Duck #2
Disney Comics (December, 1991)
“Brawl In The Family” part 2: “For Whom The Bull Toils!” WRITERS: Tad Stones, Jymm Magon, & Jan Strnad ADAPTATION/PENCILER: John Blair Moore INKER: Gary Martin COLORIST: Gaff COVER INKER: Bruce D. Patterson COVER COLORIST: Gail Bailey LETTERER: Gaspar Salandino
With the Waddlemeyer Ramrod secured and Darkwing Duck framed for it’s theft, Taurus Bulba sends his goons to capture the inventor’s granddaughter, since they offed him in the first place. Darkwing also learns of Gosalyn and he races to rescue her from the orphanage. With both Bulba’s goons and the cops after him, Darkwing drives his motorcycle into the river where they appeared to drown…but are actually in Darkwing’s secret headquarters on the St. Canard bridge. Darkwing is ready to ship her someplace safe but she blackmails her way into staying at Darkwing’s place. Meanwhile, Bulba is sure Darkwing wouldn’t drown a child because of the hero’s ego and turns his part of the prison into a giant getaway headquarters, determined to meet the masked mallard in person!
What they got right: It’s the introduction of Gosalyn and all the important parts are there, the benefit of doing a two-parter over two comics. It’s a good adaptation.
What they got wrong: Making the photograph black and white was a mistake that will be shown in the next two issues.
Recommendation: Even if you have the show this miniseries is a good adaptation and worth picking up.
