This seems an odd joke to make just after burying my own mother but it’s the callousness of the writers (and sometimes editors) about character death being alluded to here. My mother’s not coming back, and neither are the other loved ones who passed in the past few years and to see death treated so cheaply in comics is now a maddening thing for me, where it just annoyed me before.
I said the comic would be back this week, and it is. The Clutter Reports is back as well, and speaking of my mother, it’s time to start going through her media. That’s my domain so I’m starting with her very large book collection.
On the review front this week: I found my trade of the first Firestorm: The Nuclear Man miniseries so I’ll be popping back in time for a while to finish that miniseries. (I actually own the first issue but the rest are in the trade, plus some interesting extras that will show up in Scanning My Collection and a possible The Clutter Reports review once I’m done.) But the big change is in the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday schedule. Gigantor ending left a spot open in the daily review cycle, and rather than put a new series there I decided on altering a few things. Star Wars will be moving from Fridays to Wednesdays, still doing the prequel/original time period thing. Fridays will be the regular longbox travel I’ve been doing on Saturdays so until I can get new comics again there will be two of those. On Saturdays, at least for now, I’ll be going over longer books: trades, original graphic novels, comic strip collections (online and newspaper), unless something comes up that would make for a better Scanning My Collection article it will be reviewed on Saturdays now. This week will have an extra dose of DC, with a Huntress trade, collecting a miniseries. Actually, the trade is pretty recent so I’m surprised it hasn’t been reviewed yet.
There’s also something I’m hoping to put together and if successful you’ll hear more about it this week. If not you won’t, but it’s something I’d like to do and may even need.
