“Yesterday’s” Comic> Firestorm #2

Using Firestorm to torment Cliff about his bullying ways puts Ronnie in such a good mood he doesn’t hear Doreen, which puts her in a bad mood. Although it’s Martin that has worse girl troubles. Called to help work on a thermofrost chamber the scientist in charge of the project, Crystal Frost, tries to make things personal with Martin, believing he cared for her when they knew each other as much as she did for him. When rejected she accidentally locked herself in the chamber, the new process turning her into Killer Frost, out for revenge. Martin subconsciously summons Ronnie into Firestorm, who is able to defeat the new villainess. Meanwhile, Martin is starting to worry about his “blackouts” since only his subconscious is aware of Firestorm.

What they got right: I’d throw in seeing Cliff being tortured but I hate the character too much to care. I will say that this was Killer Frost’s debut and now that we’ve gotten to it, it’s pretty interesting–a villain with an unhealthy connection to the submerged half of Firestorm. Also the way her power works, absorbing heat instead of creating cold with the ice formed by the absence of heat, makes her different from the other ice-powered villains in the DC Universe.

What they got wrong: Where did Frost get the dress? Crystal was locked in there in her lab coat. Did she generate it like Ella from Frozen?

Recommendation: A good origin for Killer Frost. Science gone wrong seems to be the theme for Firestorm’s villains up to this point. Pick this one up.
