Batman & Robin Adventures #3

This is why you don’t let Russel T. Davies plan the Christmas party.

Batman & Robin Adventures #3

DC Comics (January, 1996)

“Christmas Riddle”
WRITER: Paul Dini
PENCILER: Ty Templeton
INKER: Rick Burchett
COLORIST: Linda Medley
LETTERING: Richard Starkings & Comicraft
ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Darren Vincenzo
EDITOR: Scott Peterson

The Riddler invades the Pergerinator Club’s Christmas party, declaring he will unmask Batman and Robin, who he is sure is a member of the club. However, Batman and Robin aren’t in the club but are able to figure out he’s actually after a pair of statues, stopping his plans. With the building damaged (the flaming tree is actually in the story) Bruce offers to pay for the damages. since although he’s not a joiner his father was a member.

What they got right: As he’s one of the writers of not just the show but the show bible, I like to think this aspect of Bruce and his father’s relationship is canon, that Thomas wanted to bring his son into the club he was a part of as father and son, which plenty of others in the story are shown to have, even three generations on.

What they got wrong: How did Riddler get the burning Christmas tree in the club? A minor nitpick but it’s all I’ve got.

Recommendation: Not a great story but a good story, and it’s a Christmas tale with someone other than the Joker, even if it isn’t really a Christmas story but a story set at Christmas. Still worth a read.
