Star Wars: Droids Vol.2 #6
Dark Horse (October, 1995)
“Seasons Of Revolt” part 2 WRITER: Jan Strnad PENCILER: Bill Hughes INKER: Keith Williams COLORIST: Perry McNamee COVER ART: Kilian Plunkett LETTERER: Steve Dutro BOOK DESIGN: Scott Tice EDITOR: Pete Janes
The droids end up in the fortress of “Dictator-Forever” Craw, a leader who is cruel to his people and likes it. He wants the Savorium so he can pacify his people and be as mean to them as he wants, and squash the rebellious uprising looking to depose “Dictator-For-Now”. As the Droids looks for Smiley, Artoo learns that he is the scientist who discovered Savorium, it’s first victim. The droids end up with the rebels (won’t be the last time) but Craw’s men has learned of Artoo’s poking around and threaten Smiley unless Artoo gives himself. Still hit with the caretaker virus he rushes off to do just that before Threepio and the rebels know he’s gone.
What they got right: “Smiley” being the guy who discovered the Savorium was a nice surprise and would explain why everyone’s after him. (Although that does beg the question of how the Savorium got out into the world.) Craw may be the most evil being in the Star Wars Galaxy and considering it has the Empire, Black Sun, and the Hutts that’s saying a lot.
What they got wrong: With all the people in the room and Artoo on an elevated table that still keeps him off of the ground, how did he sneak off and get that close to Craw’s base on the last page?
Recommendation: Still an interesting storyline. Worth picking up.
