Isaac Asimov’s I-Bots Vol. 2 #2
Big Entertainment (July, 1996)
“Crackdown!” part 1 WRITER: Steven Grant PENCILER: Pat Broderick INKER: Josef Rubinstein COVER ARTIST: Gil Kane COLORING: Prismacolor LETTERING: Richard Starkings & Comicraft EDITOR: James Chambers CONCEPT: Isaac Asimov DEVELOPER: Howard ChaykinKillaine is locked up, but some mysterious goings-on may spell trouble for her and her friends. Speaking of which, someone starts a rally outside Worldtech protesting the I-Bots, but it’s broken up by an unnatural storm, and that troublemaker is the only one who still wants to protest the I-Bots when they save everyone, even getting on Kevin’s nerves since he took over Worldtech while Annabelle answers for her crimes. Then Zac, whom Kevin asked to look into hackings into Worldtech systems, shows up warning that someone is trying to rewrite the internet, and sends the I-Bots to Russia. And who are the silent, bandaged assassins popping up everywhere?
What they got right: New mysteries are coming for the I-Bots and both are intriguing. The I-Bots are also proving to still be heroes even when it’s not to stay in the public eye.
What they got wrong: Unless the bandaged guys, the scientists looking over Killaine, and whatever’s happening with the internet are somehow all connected Grant is risking falling into Furman levels of too many plotlines going on.
Recommendation: This is still holding my attention. Pick this series up.
