Guess who’s off the sick list!

Action Comics #701

“Lex, it’s a new continuity! I didn’t make you bald in this one!”

Action Comics #701

DC Comics (July, 1994)

“Final Conflict”
WRITER: Karl Kesel
DIALOG: Louise Simonson
(again with the “dialog” credit?)
PENCILER: Jackson Guice
INKER: Denis Rodier
COLORIST: Glenn Whitmore
LETTERER: Bill Oakley
ASSISTANT EDITOR: Chris Duffy
 ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Frank Pittarese
EDITOR: Mike Carlin

Now within the battlesuit Superman used as part of his return, Lex goes on a rampage against the Man Of Steel, even clubbing the hero with his own memorial statue. However, a sun-powered Kryptonian proves to be even stronger than Kryptonian technology and Superman gets Lex out of the suit and to the lab, where the clone degradation is stopped but can’t be reversed, trapping Lex in his immobile form forever (or until the writers decide to bring him back).

What they got right: We get some glimpses into Lex’s thoughts and how he sees himself and the city since he can’t speak. We only get his thoughts and they tell a lot about Lex Luthor.

What they got wrong: I don’t care if you cover his naughty bits, nobody wants to see Lex Luthor naked. Especially at breakfast!

Recommendation: A good sendoff for Lex but leaving an opening to bring him back and a good fight between battlesuit Lex and Superman. Give it a look.
