“Meta-Tron Zone” WRITER/ARTIST: Teturo Ueyama ADAPTATION: Matt Thorn TOUCH-UP ART/LETTERER: Marry Kelleher COVER DESIGN: Viz Graphics EDITOR: Annette Roman
Trapped in Donner’s “Meta-Tron Zone” and struck by his “fifth trumpet” lightning attack, Faust somehow still manages to try to fight back. When Rushiha, realizing that Donner can’t hurt her without violating orders, wraps herself around Faust to protect him. However, Blitz (having portions of a human brain in his computer brain) is able to function within the Zone. He grabs Rushiha and flees. Donner blasts Faust again, causing more flashbacks of a woman, until Blitz’s tormenting of Rushiha causes Donner to turn around and Faust to fight against the Zone, bringing more mysteries about him. After Faust rips off Donner’s arm, he goes after Blitz, following the sound of Rushiha’s winding pocket watch in the powerless city, which Blitz realizes and plans to use to lead Faust into a trap.
What they got right: The mystery of Faust’s origins continue to intrigue as Donner wonders if Faust has some organic components in his brain like Blitz. Rushiha also shows some smarts by protecting Faust, knowing she’s not allowed to be harmed. There’s some good action here as well. The profiles at the back for Faust’s gun and Blitz are another thing I like about this series.
What they got wrong: I don’t know if it was the original writer or the English adaptation but shouldn’t they know for sure if Donner’s “Fifth Trumpet” attack is taking it’s name from Revelation, seeing as Donner doesn’t have any other “trumpet” attacks? That’s not how the caption makes it sound, although I also wonder why they bothered listing that when that’s what the character profiles in the back of the book are for. Maybe it’s a Japanese thing?
Recommendation: I’m disappointed there isn’t more about this series on the internet because I’m really enjoying it. Pick this up.
