Those of us who remember the McDonaldland marketing campaign (back before the parent groups threw hissy fits at anything marketed to kids because they had to listen to their kids having desires for stuff) probably remember when Hamburglar was still a bad guy. Some of us even remember Captain Crook, a pirate who stole filet of fish sandwiches. But did you know there was a time when Ronald McDonald’s best friend Grimace was….EVIL! Dinosaur Dracula brings us this lost past of a four-armed “Evil Grimace” and his drink obsession.

I never knew that Grimace started out as an evil trickster. It’s pretty neat to see these old McDonald’s commercials from before I was born. With his four arms, that old Grimace kind of reminds me of some of those Hindu gods that are depicted as having multiple arms (I don’t mean any offense to Hinduism here). I just wonder if the person who created the four armed Grimace was inspired by seeing images of the multi-armed Ganesh or other Hindu gods.
