The reason I wasn’t as annoyed by Han Solo’s death in The Force Awakens is that Harrison Ford wanted him to die back in The Empire Strikes Back, but Lucas wasn’t on board with that. (Luke’s death on the other hand was a bad idea even if I thought the fight itself was neat with a questionable execution.) However, Ford isn’t the only one who really wanted to get out of their character or just really wanted to play a death scene.
