If we’re honest Marvel’s relationship with religion has been a bit iffy. Look up the history of Jesus and Ghost Rider sometime and the contradictions will give you a bloody nose. And yet Marvel’s past includes comics about Pope John Paul II, the birth and resurrection of Jesus, and even a Christian superhero called The Illuminator during their collaborations with the publisher Thomas Nelson. This article points out that it isn’t just the Son of God that’s all over the place as even the Norse god of thunder has been stripped of his godhood and became a space alien along with the rest of Asgard. Does that mean Jack Kirby is no longer God in the Marvel universe?
