At this point Shaggy denounced sushi. Until the morning.

Scooby-Doo Team-Up #43

DC Comics (December, 2018, the last story in the vol. 7 digital trade)

“Doomed!”

WRITER: Sholly Fisch

ARTIST: Dario Brizuela

COLORIST: Franco Riesco

LETTERER: Saida Temofonte

EDITOR: Kristy Quinn

Driving home from another mystery the gang is taken by Danny The Street to Doom Patrol headquarters. Monsters have been appearing in the base and then disappearing almost immediately upon being attacked. With the extra mental muscle the Doom Patrol and Mystery Inc connect the appearances to the Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man, but it takes the strange muscles of Flex Mentallo to hypnotize the villain and rescue our heroes.

What they got right: It’s Doom Patrol for a kids comic, so I’m totally buying everything that happened here, weird as it sounds. The title crew and guest crew actually do work together well as they try to put their brains together to figure out what’s going on, and the reader gets, at least partially, to play along, which I wish the DC Scooby comics did more often.

What they got wrong: Someone need to make a counter of how many time the crook WASN’T involved in real estate and send it to Fisch because he seems to think that was the only reason the bad guys do anything in this franchise. I’m not even talking about the more paranormal adventures they’ve occasionally had. I’m talking about smugglers, crooks, people seeking revenge, or even someone just goofing around being misunderstood.

What I think overall: This is one of the better team up stories from this series. This may also be the last one of volume 7 of the trade from comiXology but there is one more trade that actually got a title, so I have a few more issues to go before this series is done.
