I wrote a response in the comments on this one:

It doesn’t have to be one-to-one to be able to relate to at least one character. I’ve been able to relate to robots because I saw something in myself in that robot. I have never been a robot nor do I expect to be in the future.
I’m more interested in something believing “believable”, at least for the rules of the world the story takes place in, than being supposedly relatable or someone’s interpretation of realistic.
