When it appears Rouge has returned to her gem-stealing ways Westlake is more than happy to lock her up. However, Sonic and Topaz are sure she’s innocent, even when Knuckles tells them she stole the Master Emerald. Our heroes, and Westlake, set a trap which the real Rouge sees as a chance to clear her name while the fake Rouge, a robot working for Eggman, falls for the “Chaos Emerald” scam and goes after it. Eggman, using a robot powered by the Master Emerald, goes in to back his fake Rouge up but our heroes (and not Westlake) manage to stop him and prove Rouge’s innocence.
What they got right: The plot is good enough, with Rouge being framed and her friends working to prove her innocence.
What they got wrong: I just really don’t like the comic’s version of Westlake. I don’t remember him being this back in the show, and remember according to the comic he’s looking to promote himself and only goes after Sonic and friends because he couldn’t have a cool animal partner like Topaz and his attempts to trick Sonic into being one blew up in his face. I just kind of want him to vanish from the book.
What I think overall: While it could have been a cool story it just doesn’t have time to fill out and yet I don’t think you could get a second full issue out of it.
