I swear this was not intended to come out just after a Barney article.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter #5

Valiant Comics (November, 1993)

“Shades Of Yesterday” part 2: “Fear No Evil”

WRITER: Tim Truman

PENCILER: Rags Morales

INKER: Randy Elliot

COLORISTS: Bill Dunn & Eric Lusk

LETTERER: Rob Johnson with Joe Albelo

EDITOR: Kevin Vanhook

Two rude (and one obviously racist) FBI agents have been sent to get Turok’s help capturing a family of allosauruses that I guess escaped the Lost Land. They’re working for Senator Ackerman (one n, so the Jewish spelling), a thorn in X-O Manowar’s side, who wants to deliver them to the Smithsonian for study, but Turok plans to kill them if they get close to the nearby town of Harryhausen. After Turok’s friend passes, he agrees to care for and train his grandson, Andy, a teen with a major chip on his shoulder and the racist agent isn’t making things easier. Eventually they and Doctor Howell do go to deal with the dinosaurs, but a tracker has been hired to get a special prize, but not the dinosaurs. He wants the immortal “son of stone”, aka Turok!

What they got right: Everyone has a unique personality. Only one of the agents is a racist jerk. The nods to old monster movies (I’m sure you noticed them in the summary) was nice.

What they got wrong: I haven’t followed this story, as it’s the only issue I have, so I don’t know if the story needed this human wrinkle with the collector who wants to capture a human being instead of dinosaurs. Also didn’t need the one racist and the kid kind of gets on my nerves, too.

What I think overall: This is my introduction to the original Turok and frankly it just doesn’t impress me personally. I can see where someone may like it but the original Valiant universe just isn’t my cup of tea.
