Hey, we still got back to him faster than we’ve gotten back to poor Prime. He’s still on the moon in the Ultraverse reviews.

Knuckles The Echidna #22

Archie Comics Publications (February, 1999)

“Dark Alliance” part 1: “You Say You Want A Revolution…”

WRITER: Ken Penders

PENCILER: JIm Valentino

INKER: Harvey Mercadoocasio

COLORIST: Barry Grossman

LETTERER: Vickie Williams

EDITOR: J.F Gabrie

Knuckles tries to get the Brotherhood to let him see his dad, who is bringing our heroes home after the last story arc, while they try to answer his other questions with a history lesson Knuckles doesn’t want to listen to. That’s interrupted when a Dingo protest turns violent after somebody throws the Mobian version of a Molotov Cocktail at Remmington’s car as he brings Lara-Le and her fiance home. Knuckles and Archimedes teleports in to calm the crowd along with General Striker. Knuckles then reunites with the other Chaotix and Julie-Su tells him the Dingos just want the Echidnas to get their new homes built already, and they’ve chosen election season to push the point. What nobody suspects is that the Dark Legion has captured a councilor who claimed to be anti-tech but had a house full of technology…and brainwashed him into joining their “Technology Now” movement.

I want to do a proper review, but I’m having a hard time caring. The Dark Legion demanding the return of technology is getting old. I don’t even know what the councilor was doing with a television. Was he watching reruns of Robotnik rants? Who’s making these shows? There are two things really bugging me though. One is Knuckles being such a jerk. I can understand being angry but he’s learned nothing about keeping up with his history, since he needed that info to stop Dimitri (no longer going by Enerjak) last time. The other is this isn’t the comic I go to for all this political intrigue stuff. I want to see the Chaotix fighting bad guys. I’m not against this kind of story, but it’s not what I come here for and it’s not very exciting. This is not Penders’s strong suit, or if it is that doesn’t speak well of his skill level.

So the end result it I found the book kind of boring. Others may differ, and that’s fine. I just couldn’t get into this issue.
