Well, I tried avoiding this series, but Break-Thru and crossing over with The Night Man made that difficult. Mangle stumbles upon the Freex and convinces them he’s one of them instead of a twisted psycho in an even more twisted body. Michael is the only one who doesn’t trust him, and since we last saw these character he seems to have developed a crush on Angela, who is into Lewis, changing her mind when he falls for Mangle’s lies and Michael isn’t so sure. Still, Mangle convinces them to attempt to help kidnap Guy while Night Man drives through the crazed city. (The current events seem to be messing with Val’s powers and Ray is getting drawn into the “moon madness”.) When the search is made harder by the craziness, he decides to wait for Mangle at Guy’s estate, but arrives after the Freex and Mangle do. Michael does manage to get control of the robot security guards for a short time, but Night Man attempts to stop Mangle are blocked by the confused teens. Guy has time to escape and everyone’s in pursuit.
What they got right: Mangle is quite the manipulator. I like Michael/Plug and hope he manages to get a better offering that these losers.
What they got wrong: I still hate these “heroes”, the art is not fantastic, and yet this crossover made me read a comic I already didn’t like without convincing me it was worth another chance.
What I think overall: If I come off as too harsh it’s because I really don’t like this comic and having to read it again makes me unhappy. The story continues in the issue #3 of The Night Man.
