As the others escape Kodos, Sonic and the other Freedom Fighters reunite, learning Arachnis has died thanks to the same toxins that has driven Kodos insane. Nate decides to go to Robotropolis to warn the Overlanders, unaware that Robo-Robotnix has built a Roboticizer into his robotic body that can transform humans with just a touch, though they’re more like robotic statues. Sally manages to recover the Sword Of Acorns and defeats Kodos just as Mina arrives to tell them about Nate, who is rescued by Uncle Chuck and Muttski. It doesn’t matter to Robotnik, as Nate’s capture was just to lure Sonic in. The plan backfires when Sally restores free will to the captured Robians while Nate sacrifices himself to shut the force field down so they can escape. Now Nate is roboticized as well.
What they got right: Nice moment as Nate realizes what’s about to happen and surrenders to his fate. Very dramatic. Most of the story is stuff happening to finish the arc and it works on that level.
What they got wrong: The art is very mid. Character’s aren’t off model but they don’t really look right compared to previous issues. Showing Mina’s speed looks less like a yellow blur and more like she’s halfway through a white-and-yellow wall.
In Knuckles’ story, he’s reunited with Julie-Su, but in return for restoring Echidnaopolis, Dimitri wants Knuckles to join his faction, which he reluctantly agrees to. Meanwhile, Tobor and Kragok return to the regular world, but perish in a final battle, Tobor’s spirit being led to the afterlife by his father.
I wish I knew what the heck was going on. I don’t know why they bothered with Tobor and Kragok. I don’t know how the Dark Legion is here, what happened to the city, how Knuckles got his supercharge…basically missing a few issues mean missing a lot and I am so very lost.
What I think overall: It’s an okay comic but not a great comic. I can see why I fell away from it again at some point.
