If you go looking for this on Drive Thru Comics, note that this isn’t a typical comic. Instead it’s a tutorial for the tabletop RPG. The story takes you through a short adventure with Gerrin, a young hunter on a quest to find a flower that can cure his mother of a curse placed on him by some evil character. We don’t get to meet the character here, and the story offers different paths as you come upon a peddler woman being threatened by bandits and a forest being who helps him find the flower, depending on the chosen path by the reader. It also sets up the history of the game, when dark forces were unleashed upon the world, but the player may have a chance to save it…just not in this story.
The comic plays like a choose your path gamebook, but with instructions on how you would play the game. How you handle the bandits doesn’t really play into this story. It’s just meant to introduce you to the game mechanics and the world Gerrin lives in. If you’re looking for a good read or even a good Choose Your Own Adventure style book, this is the place for it. If you’re curious about the game this will give you some idea if it’s something you want to play. Not being a role-player myself, I did appreciate the stunning artwork and the worldbuilding.
However, this is probably not the game for me. I would encourage game players to give it a look and if it peeks their interest though.
