BW Programming Note> Guess Who’s Sick Again

Yep, it’s me. My dad is worse and I seem to be getting over this cold, but it’s throwing me off, just as last week was starting to get into the work rhythm I’ve been trying to get into for a while now. I’d love to know what’s working against me! I didn’t get a Clutter Report in.

At any rate, I don’t think I’m going to get comic reviews done this week. I know X-O Manowar and Star Power are on cliffhangers but I’m still tired. If I’m better by Saturday I’ll do Blue Beetle just to get back on track. I don’t even know when the feature articles are going up, though I plan to start with this week’s Chapter By Chapter review of Star Trek: The Vulcan Academy Murders whatever day I start up again. Luckily I’ve finished the Spider-Man intros and Beast Machines story guides, so that’s two less worries. Not sure what’s happening this week, but I am going to try to get all of this week’s Daily Quickpost videos in just to have something post so you don’t forget me.

Otherwise, back to being sick of being tired and tired of being sick. Hope the rest of you have a better week.

Beast Machine Hunters> Season Two (& article series) Finale

Last time on Beast Machine Hunters, I learned I spent way too much time on a logo that will get less use than Movies With The Guys. The Season Two guide is only seven pages long and we went through all the planned episodes for the Battle For The Spark season. So what’s left?

The section is just labeled “Requests/Desires For New Season:”, so I’m guessing it’s just a list of what they wanted to do with the second half of Beast Machines. I still haven’t had time to rewatch the final show we got, so I’ve been working from memory. Finding an outstanding moment from my memory with this show is harder than with the two shows that preceded it. We have seen changes between the various guides and what I do remember from the show, which is what I find the most interesting about going through these; seeing what differences happen between the planning stage and the final work. It’s also why I enjoy novelization and comic adaptations, knowing they’re based on the latest available script and costume designs.

So let’s go through the final few pages (I linked to the guide in last week’s post if you want to follow along) and see what else was and wasn’t changed when it hit TV.

BW’s Daily Video> Superhero Mount Rushmore

I don’t think I agree with all of his choices. Certainly not Jessica Jones as she has never had a real impact on the Marvel Universe. Maybe more than…say, Northstar, but that’s hardly a high bar to hurdle. If I were to do something like this, and I don’t go in for those fad-style lists like the “X” Iceberg or “X” Mount Rushmore, I’d look more at who had an impact on their respective universes as a whole in each period than what sold. The fact that he couldn’t find much in current day comics tells you a lot about current day comics.

TJ TV Returns To Wreck Van-Pires

In the early days of this site, and back when Channel Awesome was still the site every reviewer wanted to be part of, one of my recommendations was TJ Omega, host of a show called TJ TV. The tagline says it all: taking revenge on my childhood. Not that every show he reviewed was bad, but they were all kind of weird. Sometimes they were weird in a good way, and sometimes it was Van-Pires, but I’m jumping ahead here.

TJ (Tyler James) found the review and let me know it wasn’t his first, or only, review gig. While TJ TV was on Blip before Maker Studios ransacked it to look pretty for Disney, he had a YouTube toy review show called Plastic Addict, looking at poorly designed toys, including Transformers. In fact, mostly Transformers. While the scripted shows are something he doesn’t have time for, he still discusses toys and related media on YouTube. The thing is sometimes kids finds those reviews, so he wasn’t comfortable putting more colorful language into his show. You know…swears.

One of his Patreon stretch goals was bringing back TJ TV without the language, and he recently hit it. The new format matches his usual daily discussions but he’s still looking at weird and terrible shows. For example, Van-Pires, a Power Rangers wanna-be that makes Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverly Hills look like it has more effort put into it. If you’ve never heard of this show before, I’m sorry. And if you have…learn that we share your pain because I made the mistake of watching a couple of episodes when it aired. It’s worse for Tyler…he watched the whole thing in 2024. Since I’m under the weather today, we’re watching this. Which tells you where my head is right now.
