The Many, MANY Intros Of Spider-Man> Live From The 1970s

It’s kind of interesting that all of the 1970s Spider-Man appearances were in live-action. It’s true, the Sam Rami films were not the first time our favorite wall crawler was performed by a physical actor…with the budget of a 1970s television show. I hope you’re not expecting much out of these shows.

However, I think each add something interesting to the character in their own way, in different approaches with different actors. We’ll be looking at three different shows with five different intros between them. They’ve become infamous in their own ways but I rather enjoy all of the shows we’re looking at. The intros…depends on the one we’re looking at. So here we go.

BW’s Daily Video> Nicholas Briggs Dissects Past Dalek Voices

Kind of disappointing to hear that they redid old performances years later. Even if they weren’t very good, it’s still interesting to follow the evolution of such things. Plus it feels like a slight against the original performers, but that’s just me. Also wish he had covered the Peter Cushing films just as a point of interest.

Chapter By Chapter #22 Reveal

Chapter By Chapter (usually) features me reading one chapter of the selected book at a time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as a read-along book club.

This is a rare occasion for me. I’m sort of starting at the beginning of the Christmas season. So I tried to figure out what I could that would fit in the allotted time. There isn’t a lot. Not counting this and Christmas day itself I only have two Mondays. A shorter book is required but nothing decent is really that short. I thought about my schedule, knowing I needed time to finish (hopefully) my Christmas superhero comic, Captain Yuletide. I actually considered using Saturday as a bonus day since I was not going to be doing “Yesterday’s” Comic until after the holiday for the same reason. That would mean STILL taking up time I need for the comic.

Then I came up with what I need, once I figured out what I’m going to read. My choice is only five “staves” long, so I could do that the last week of Christmas, free up even more time to finish my minicomic on time, and still have a Christmas themed Chapter By Chapter. That brings us to this year’s book of choice. The Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus is one I’d like to read but that would take up all of December and I’m not prepared to give up the whole month and still lose out. I’ll have to figure out how to tackle that in the future. Other choices are children’s books and thus really short. I’m not sure how to tackle them. Then I checked into my first choice and found it’s rather easy to do even though the chapters are a bit long. I can auto-schedule them for Christmas week and not worry about them. So this year, and for the twenty-second book in the Chapter By Chapter review series, it’s time for a timeless classic that’s been adapted, homaged, sequeled, and re-imagined to death and yet rarely gets as old as its protagonist. Set your clocks for midnight because we’re reading…

BW’s Annual NORAD Tracks Santa Reminder

Catch new games every day up to Christmas and the Christmas Eve Santa Tracker at the official NORAD Tracks Santa website.

Also learn how an old Santa hotline using the wrong phone number led to NORAD doing this tradition every year. I don’t know if the phone app is working this year or not. I’ve heard they’ve had issues with it in the past.

Jake & Leon #581> Resurrection Of Davros

The Daleks only tolerated their creator because he was part Dalek. Technically they’re ALL disabled, Davies!

Should time allows I’ll be talking about…that…in a different manner this week.

In this week’s Clutter Report, enjoy the final review of Batman: Knightfall, my overall thoughts on the novelization. I’ll reveal the next Chapter By Chapter tomorrow, but this posting is going to be a bit different for a few different reasons. You’ll see what I mean.

Also this week I begin looking at the handful of Archie comics I have with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a line that started being based on the cartoon before going its own direction. This was actually a good thing. Thanks to the show the Ninja Turtles were popular with kids but the original comic was still for older readers, what with the death and the blood and the booze and all of that. So here’s a Ninja Turtles comics that kids would better relate to and wasn’t bound by the limits of the show. A little something for everyone, but at the same time had Archie worked with Fred Wolf, imagine what they could have come up with together by keeping both in the same continuity. I don’t have of them but we’ll look at what few I have. I hope I still like them.

I’d also like to get in another installment of the Many, MANY Intros Of Spider-Man and the dive into the season one guide of Transformers: Beach Machines still has a ways yet to go. “Yesterday’s” Comic will continue for December, at least until I need to clear up space to work on this year’s Captain Yuletide, which was supposed to be LAST year’s. As far as Tuesday’s replacement for Marvel comics, I’ve reached a decision. For those of you who don’t read the old comic reviews or care about the Christmas offerings I’ll put it behind the “read more” on the homepage (no paywalls here) and you can read it there. Have a great week and possibly welcome to the site. For the rest of you…
