Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at a time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.
In the previous chapter Jake got a new partner whether he wants her or not. He’s a detective hot on a case. She’s an android with all the answers. It sounds like a TV show…oh wait, it was. Not the show based on these books. Look up Mann And Machine some time. I barely remember it myself.
Are our heroes still in escape mode or is it time for her knowledge of her of Beth and her father (being a Beth android I call Bethdroid to tell them apart while explaining things) and his connections to get to solving this mystery? It seems I’m running out of intro fodder and we’re only half-way through this book, so let’s get to it.
So…you know how I usually do these intros before reading the chapter to add authenticity? Well, the book did it to me again, having one chapter flow into the other to the point that it could have just been one chapter. In fact maybe part of this chapter should be part of the previous chapter. Let’s get into the review so I can explain.

The Aliens franchise seems to have suffered a problem shared with the Terminator franchise. The first movie was good, the second movie was better, and everything else was a waste of the time it took to make and/or watch it. This includes the crossover with the Predators, but I had a previous link to Bounding Into Comics going over that failure. Check that out and then see things from the aliens side. Writer Slade Hale goes over each movie in the Aliens franchise and why the first two are the only ones fans care about.

I wanted to have a comic this week in the same way I wanted to have an Art Soundoff. My sleeping schedule hasn’t been so good this week and yesterday I finally got to leave the house for a pre-Christmas block party, which was all I had to talk about in this week’s Clutter Report. No, I didn’t get drunk. I don’t drink alcohol, but I did have hot chocolate and my crazy digestive system did allow me to have popcorn. It’s something I totally needed but I’m kind of wiped out at the moment and I still have to produce stuff for Monday. I’d like that to include Art Soundoff but I’ll at least have the comic (might be late) and Chapter By Chapter review of TekWar up.
As for what else, I have a good commentary in mind but otherwise I don’t know. Right now I’m too drained to focus and I don’t know what dumb things are brewing in the entertainment world. I’ll pull myself together before the week is out…maybe. Have a good week, everyone!

Art Soundoff this year has been an issue. My sleep cycle has been terrible and it’s trickled down to my various projects like this website and The Clutter Reports. I hope to at least finish out November but tonight I have plans, Unless I post whenever Sunday I won’t be back until Monday.
Every Art Soundoff I’ve posted the first video of others who took part in the Art Soundoff Challenge, but this year even Jerzy Drozd and Rob Stenzinger, the two comic creators who started this micropodcast challenge, didn’t contribute this year. Except for myself the only contributor has been Owen Jollands, comic colorist for Hi-Fi. He’s only posted four and he doesn’t know how long he’ll keep them up (technically one of the rules of Art Soundoff is you don’t have to post at all) so I thought I’d bring you his four offerings. And he even replied to one of the six (I’m still ahead, Owen!) I’ve posted this year. So let’s look at what a comics professional has to say about making comics before returning to the rank amateur (me).

I know what some of you are thinking. “Why bring this up again? The New 52 is done. Dan DiDio is gone. Why can’t you just let this go?” Because this is a website that examines what has been done right and wrong in order to improve myself as a storyteller and the New 52 is a great example of the “wrong” category. It’s why I also harp on Identity Crisis, Heroes In Crisis, and so many other DiDio crises (seriously, dude was so obsessed with Crisis On Infinite Earths that he has more “Crisis” titles than Power Rangers has “Dino” or “Force” titles) during his run. It’s worth examining the failures of the New 52 in different perspectives to try to piece together just why it went so horribly wrong.
Here’s another interesting examination of why this hard reboot, the second hard reboot for the DC universe after soft reboots like Zero Hour, led to the further destruction of the DC universe to so many classic fans, be they from the Bronze Age like me or the “Dark Age” of the 1990s. From Comic Tropes, a channel YouTube has been trying to get me to watch for a while now, comes the history of the New 52 behind the scenes. I’m slightly over 8 minutes in as I write this and already I find this interesting enough to make this post. Oh yeah, sorry it’s late. I got woken up early this morning and it’s thrown off my whole day.
