BW’s Daily Article Link: Now Bambi’s Going Photorealistic?

Strange that this trailer, if it’s still up because YouTube has issues, talks about Bambi’s older years when people remember the early days of young Bambi, Thumper, and Flower more. Enjoy your memories because Disney continues to hate them. Now this story, loosely based on a novel by Felix Salten (typical Disney), is getting a photorealistic remake just like The Lion King, and if it’s more faithful to the book you won’t see Thumper and Flower either. Richard Schertzer of Fansided’s “Hidden Remote” goes over why this is a bad idea…although I think we could have guessed that on our own.

Midnight’s Edge’s He-Man History part 1

Well, today’s been…a day I was forced to live. It’s hard to be partial when you’re in a bad mood so we’ll shelve today’s plan for tomorrow. As I’m coming up on the deadline I need to have something to entertain and inform. Luckily I keep a few Filler Videos on hand that doesn’t work as just a quick post.

Masters Of The Universe may be known more as a TV show and some comics but it started as a toyline. This kind of matches up with my defense of cartoons based on/meant to sell toys. The show itself has to be good to sell toys. There’s a reason Star Trek had a ton of toys and Space Rangers didn’t, at least that I’m aware of. Plus the toys outlasted the show. It’s a story about toys for kids based on stories and artwork not for kids, a surprise hit with girls leading to a jealous girls division ruining a good idea, and a franchise that still has fans today.

In the first of a series of videos by Midnight’s Edge, host Andre Einherjar begins his look at the history with the debut of the toyline and minicomics and the debut of a cartoon that opened the door for syndicated animated series apart from the Saturday morning formula.

It’s slightly amusing watching a black and white clip from the second episode of Batman from the 60s and hearing teens react to it. The 1960s were a different time from today. As far as the song…never lasted to my generation. That was the first time I heard it.

Chapter By Chapter> Robotech: Before The Invid Storm chapter 7

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Does Dana have ulterior plans? Well, she’s Dana so the odds favor it. Last time she let slip something about going into space but the way she said it makes me think it’s not just about seeing the remaining Zentraedi up on the old factory satellite, where we’re headed this chapter.

I’m wondering if maybe there wasn’t too much backstory last chapter. Obviously there are things that need to be established but a good use of backstory is to establish a history, maybe making someone curious to see these other stories in the novels and comics to see this “expanded universe” part of Robotech, but when done wrong actually loses the audience instead. I think we know what we need to about the otherwise unchronicled years but given what’s about to happen I’m expecting more talk about the Malcontent Uprisings, a period I know only a little about because I didn’t know there were Robotech comics until the Academy run and this is my first novel. Let’s see if we get a good balance this time.
