BW’s Daily Video: Creating The 80s HBO Intro

Here’s a nicer version of the intro, for their “Feature Presentation” features. This one has the same adults, but they added kids.

BW Media Spotlight V-log: 2021 Plans

No comic this week, as I go over in the v-log. Coming this week is the next chapter of BattleTech: I Am Jake Falcon, and a new Art Of Storytelling plus whatever comes up during the week. In the v-log I go over the longterm plans for 2021 for BW, The Clutter Reports, YouTube, and creative goals. How far I’ll actually get we’ll have to see.

I forgot to go into the software that turns my old smartphone into my new webcam, but the watermark that comes up around the 7 minute mark contains the url. Also didn’t show off the phone mount that connects to the tripod. I don’t need the ones with the built-in ring light because I don’t do anything with a webcam that often plus isn’t a ring light supposed to go around the camera to get the best lighting? A simple and cheaper phone holder was all I needed.

TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Intro
2:21: main goals
5:00 Clutter Report goals
9:06 BW Media Spotlight goals
19:05 creative goals

Have a good week, everyone!

Saturday Night Showcase: The Original Ultraman

If I understand correctly Ultra Q was about scientists fighting monsters, which is what giant monster (aka kaiju) movies were like at the time, but this was a TV show. I think I heard it compared to The X-Files, which wouldn’t come out until decades later. For the sequel series Tsuburaya tried something new by having the military develop a special anti-kaiju task force. However, one member of the team would merge with a giant good alien from another galaxy and together they would protect the planet from space and terrestrial monster threats. That version was called Ultraman, and it was so well received that it began a franchise that still makes new series to this day. Ultraman would be dubbed into English to air on US television as would some of the sequel series. Two shows would also be co-produced with a US studio, one of which was a previous Saturday Night Showcase.

Tonight, thanks to Shout Factory’s TokuSHOUTsu channel I get to bring you the first episode of Ultraman along with a more recent Ultra series next week. The original is in Japanese but the subtitles are available on-screen without using the captions. If you don’t like to read the subtitles I also found a posting of the dubbed version, but there’s a reason the really curious may want to watch both.

Why Killing Off T’Challa Is Not A Good Idea

It’s not easy when your star dies. I mean it’s harder for the people who knew and loved him, his family and friends. No, that shouldn’t include the fans. You know him or her for their work but they weren’t your family. Their film may have gotten you through a situation or spoke to you and inspired you and that’s great. However, that movie was a collaborative effort. There are numerous actors in most cases, writers, directors, cinematographers, editors, a special effects and stunt team depending on the movie…while books and even some comics allow for one voice running the whole show (if they didn’t have an editor) no movie, TV show, play, or audio drama are the work of one person alone.

When Kevin Feige announced that the sequel to Black Panther would not recast T’Challa, the character portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman (who hid a fight with colon cancer even while making this film) there was a positive outcry from fans. Some just want to see a woman take over the role because they don’t actually care about the movie or the comics that the fictional nation of Wakanda comes from. However, many honestly feel that to them Boseman was T’Challa and it would be wrong to cast anyone else in tribute to Boseman’s passing. The problem is what I just pointed out, that the character doesn’t come from the movie nor was it created specifically for Boseman. I’m not trying to downplay his importance given the movie is still on my Finally Watch list and I’m a white dude who doesn’t connect with the significance enough (though it’s nice to see black superheroes on screen that aren’t Blankman or Hancock), I’m saying this character isn’t about Boseman and this becomes another example of Hollywood not caring about the source material, those silly old comic books.
