BW’s Morning Video Link: Marvel VS DC On Secret Identities

Quick, name anybody besides Spider-Man who maintains a secret identity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You can’t, can you? Marvel in both their comics and their movies seem to be trying to do away with as many secret identities as they can lately. Even some new superhero indie and web comics don’t have secret identities for their heroes. DC themselves spilled the beans about Prince Adam being He-Man. However, the reason DC still maintains them, even under current (mis)management and Marvel is dropping them more and more has to do with their philosophies on how to approach superheroes and how that affects their approach to alter egos. Galvanic’s Bulletoon Weekend video series has a great video going over those differences, and proving why I love DC more…at least until the reign of DiDio.

Chapter By Chapter #14 Revealed

The last book was rather short, and this one is going to be rather long. The chapter system is interesting but there will be quite a bit of reading. My source is a discussion in itself, and this time you can actually read along even if you don’t currently own a copy. I haven’t had that bit of luck since Seduction Of The Innocent and I bet none of you read that. You cowards! This time however, it’s in public domain. Isn’t that cool? Well, maybe you’ll think so after the reveal.

First let me tease what’s coming for the folks coming in on the homepage. Our next Chapter By Chapter book is a bit outside my usual genre, and while that hasn’t ended well in previous Chapter By Chapter books I have a good feeling about this one. To be fair The Black Stallion’s Ghost was made for a different audience (someone who knows horses), Seduction Of The Innocent is meant as a warning about how the old guard treats new media, and Op-Center had a few issues, but my biggest complaints were the chapter structure and how half the book was more interested in promoting the series than dealing with the main crisis. This one is a timeless classic, and has influenced how the title character and his band have been treated in media since. I don’t know if that makes it a must-read since it isn’t the original incarnation but considering the characters are part of our culture, and not just pop culture, it’s possible. Grab thy bows and guard thy change purses because we art going to the forest in “merry” old England to avoid paying taxes to the King. At least until the New World beckons us. In case you haven’t guessed, the fourteenth book to be reviewed one chapter at a time is…..

BW’s Morning Article Link: Star Trek The Motion Picture Returns To Theaters

If you’ve always wanted to see Star Trek: The Motion Picture on the big screen, or have and just want to again, Fathom Events is showing the movie in theaters in September. Just remember it’s a rather long movie so make sure you go to the bathroom before it starts. Not that it helps me, but I have medical issues.

Jake & Leon #418: Last Minute

And even then this was late.

I hate when I come up with a good idea and it’s too late to do it right.

Over at The Clutter Reports this week I went through a full review of Transformers Armada: The Battle Begins. Our next book will debut tomorrow.

With luck I should get caught up on that webcomic to see if I really want to give it an Internet Spotlight feature. (I won’t say what it is in case I don’t. I don’t slam someone’s hard work for fun.) I’m not sure what else I’ll have to offer this week but hopefully you’ll enjoy it just the same. Have a good week, folks!

Saturday Night Showcase: Space Command

The internet has done wonders for creators trying to get out their dream projects to an audience that might not get to see it otherwise. TV networks and even streaming services can only greenlit a certain amount of content at one time. For TV they only have so much room on their schedule, and like TV networks even Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, the premium YouTube service, and all the upcoming flood of “take your money” services only have so much money they can budget for original programming. So regular YouTube or Vimeo backed by Kickstarter or Patreon are the best way to go these creators have.

Tonight we have Space Command, a would-be TV/streaming series by TV writer Marc Scott Zicree. He’s written for everything from Star Trek to Superfriends, and runs a YouTube channel called Mr. Sci-Fi discussing science fiction and his work. However he has his own project he wanted to put out. The show’s website says it’s about three families of veteran space pilots, but from what I can tell the show is about one man, Captain Jack Kemmer, newly assigned to the Paladin following a major rescue. The version I’m showing you tonight features Zicree discussing the project before launching into the first half of the two-hour pilot, “Redemption”. It’s Kemmer’s first day on the job, and already he has to deal with sentient androids and…well, you’ll see in the video. Remember, it’s only the first hour, at this time a teaser for the series. There is another version that is the same, just without the opening commentary. If you prefer that here’s that link. Otherwise, enjoy.
