A reporter fired from the Daily Planet is working for the Metro Star, a less than reputable news source. However, he thinks he’s got an angle on Superman because he doesn’t believe he’d save people out of kindness (sound like anyone you know?) and he seems awfully chummy with the reporter’s former workplace. And then Metallo gets involved.

What they got right: This is a different way to look at Superman’s friendship with Lois, Jimmy, Perry, and Clark (as far as anybody knows). It is a good angle for a news story by a rival paper. The part where the reporter is talking to some of Superman’s old foes to prove his claim was funny at some parts, but weird at others. Also, was Metro Star an homage to the Daily Star, the original name of the paper Clark and Lois works for before the writers changed it to the Daily Planet?

What they got wrong: Too bad that’s not where the story goes. Instead, it’s more proving that Superman is that good and while I don’t have a problem with that there was a potentially different theme that becomes a missed opportunity. I’m also not into Metallo’s design here. It’s a bit bulky. I’m also not sure what Bizzaro and Kalibak are doing here. I don’t think there’s any continuity between these comics so I’m not talking about Bizzaro’s story a few issues ago. It just seems odd to see him there, but Kalibak being there doesn’t make any sense to me.

Recommendation: It’s worth looking at because it’s a good story but nothing to rush out and buy right now.

Lampshading "kryptonite" as a stand-in for weakness. I like it.
