In the year of our Lord 2007, in the month of March, there came a man unlike any other, or at least that’s how it’s told. His name was Bahlactus. On this day he had called together storytellers far and why in the corner of the multiverse known as the Blogosphere (hopefully I’m spelling that right). And he did decree…

Bring me your tales of daring do. Tell other of these great heroes in underwear worn outside brightly colored tights. Amuse me..I mean them..with legends of schoolgirls battling vampires, robots battling Nazis. But not just any tales. I want to hear of fists against bone, feet against flesh. I want to hear…

I want to see them fight!

And so bloggers came from far and wide, scanners running hot, to call forth…

Friday Night Fights!

And truly the battles were great. Although the original posters were few in number, the numbers grew. Grew until they reached…maybe over 10 or so. I didn’t really count.

But alas, even his often celebrated power could not sustain the fictitious onslaught he endured. (Hey, this could have been a lot more overly dramatic. You don’t want to know.) And in November of 08, he announced he was stepping down as the organiser of the fights.

And the universe weeped.

(Me, too. I was just about to start this thing and was hoping to participate.)

But then like a light out of the shadows. Then it flickered. Then a voice cursed lame batteries and threw his flashlight down in disgust. Then the bloggers heard from one of their own. One whose voice had gained new strength, for he had trained with the previous master, and was prepared to accept the mantle. And the being known as Fred by some, and Spacebooger by others, spoke three words. Three words that would split the dark clouds.

Continue the fights!

For he, once meerly a participant, would now be the leader. He would continue the tradition. The Friday Night Fights would live on!

And I would be too busy to make an entry tonight. 😦 Even now I’m in the next day. So I thought just to put something here, my initial “Internet Spotlight” would be my favorite Friday Night Fights. Well, some of them, as there are a lot to go through. So here are my favorite fights of the first 12 rounds of puncha-puncha! Good times.

(Note that I didn’t get into comic blogs until I had nothing to do being stuck home sick for all of Spring. I didn’t even know there was a big circle of comic blogs until then.)

Superman punches giant monkey–always a crowd pleaser.

I like anything with Spider-Ham. Too bad we never got the Mighty Mouse team-up when Marvel had the license.

The early fights had some of the dialog altered. I’m pretty sure the Spectre didn’t talk like that. Nor did Doctor Doom spit out a line like this. Get on it, Marvel Adventures! Your still fun enough to try and make it work.

Captain America and Namor vs. a Frankenstein-y monster. Even as a younger man, Chris Sims brought the odd. Such as a woman punching a shark. With her “bionic arm”, yet.

Oddly, someone else has Spidey putting boot to Venom’s face, though.

The Thing vs. The Thing. Stop hitting yourself, Ben!

One of my favorite bloggers learns an important lesson. And then goes out for ice cream.

One of the best from Bahlactus himself!

Batman battles the Karate Kid. No, not that one.

Two words: killer ballet.

Batman vs. Cheetah. No, the animal not the supervillain.

I had to get one in from the blog that drew me into comic blogs, and it has Superman vs. Grundy.

I hear he does this in The Dark Knight, too.

A little love for Power Girl. The Metal Men…not so much.

I…I almost didn’t make it. Just so much combat to handle so late at night. Seriously, I hadn’t read any of these before, and there were so many more that I didn’t post. Well, at least there’s more for next time I come up short. Hopefully I’ll be able to join Spacebooger’s version. He’s asking for every final shot to contain an onomatopoeia.  You know, those written sound effects when comics need sounds? Like when Adam West and Burt Ward punch bad guys. There you go.

Maybe next week.

A punch is only as strong as the force behind it. I am looking forward to you joining in future Friday Night Fights and throwing down with us so that Round 12’s K.O. will echo throughout the whole internet.

Oh, even if I’m only in the 12th round, I’ll be there. (He says, forgetting his personal history.:))
