Well, it’s been a while since I’ve had time to check out what’s hanging around my RSS feed between holidays and medical issues, so let’s see what’s interesting.
Comics
- It’s official: Disney owns Marvel!
- Fred Van Lente is writing Iron Man stories again! This is as it should be, so I’m not expecting the House of (Bad) Ideas to keep it going very long.
- ComiXology’s Tucker Stone takes a look at the fan fallout from Marvel’s Girl Comics announcement. Hopefully, it’s better to the female characters than most of Marvel’s main universe offerings.
- Supergirl’s 50th birthday, and nobody told me. Apparently nobody told DC, either. I hope someone at least got her a nice cake.
- Comic Book Resources takes a look at the past decade, because we’re all nostalgic and stuff on the web lately.
- CBR also reports that Ape Entertainment is starting a new line of kids comics, called Kizoic. It will include DreamWorks movie properties Shrek and Madagascar and also original properties. Mecha-Nation looks pretty cool to me.
- Just a reminder that the trade version of Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade just came out, and that you want it. No, really, Supergirl Comic Box Commentary agrees with me.
Movies
- Taylor Swift as Supergirl? Note that I became a man after seeing Helen Slater as Supergirl, and I’m totally exaggerating that. However, it made lose interest in Wonder Woman. Then came The Legend of Billie Jean, and that just freaked me out. On the other hand, Slater played Talia in Batman: The Animated Series? Really?
- Mr. T says no to making a cameo appearance in the upcoming A-Team movie.
Video Games
- IndustryGamers takes a look at the sad history of Duke Nukem Forever.
- Doctor Mario Cardinale advises athletes to put the controller down before the big game. (h/t: GamePolitics)
- Guinness is releasing a new World’s Record book for gamers. The most recognizable gaming icon? Pac-Man! As much as I like Mario, yay for the original gaming legend!
In Other News
- Someone at Comic Book Resources posted a link to an rather interesting piece about judging something as “childish”. It’s short and to the point.
- Hero Sandwich gave us the lowdown on robots, because robots are awesome. Until they try to take over and kill us all, of course. Scott Slemmons there would disagree, but I think he just wants to be the house slave. Sellout!
- Apparently, “oldskool” gangsters knew how to wear a hat.
- The American Kennel Club, an organization of dog lovers, has put out a list of the top dogs (no pun intended) of pop culture. {Here is the full list in PDF.}
- And finally (as well as speaking of things nobody told me about), Issac Asmiov, one of the greatest science fiction writers you can ever read, would have been 90 years old last Saturday. I recommend watching the second video. It’s an amazing perspective on creativity.
And thus we say goodbye to 2009 and hello to 2010. Hope this year is better than last.
