Diabo goes on a rampage, using his alchemy powers to capture Iron Man and keep the Avengers running crazy. He reveals to Tony that he used his air elementals to spy on the Avengers and saw how happy they were, and just went nuts from despair. (Remember he’s one of those “I want to cure my comatose wife” types.) It turns out he was actually driven nuts by “D’Spayre“, a not-quite demon who feeds on the despair of others. Knowing who is behind his pain, Diablo is able to overcome the creature and regain his sanity.
What they got right: The theme of human emotions continue, and we get another interesting story around that theme. The characters really get a chance to shine. Interesting remake on D’Spayre, too.
What they got wrong: For a story I can recommend, there’s quite a bit more to put here than the “right”. I’m not sure about setting up a love triangle between Steve, Sue, and Reed (Sue and Reed aren’t married in this universe). Some traditions should be kept, and Reed using Black Widow to keep an eye on Sue is bound to go wrong eventually. Also, too many artists again, which means more uneven art, and some of it isn’t all that good. Also, Vision is hardly “featured” any more than the other Avengers, despite the cover telling us so. If anything, Diablo would be the “featured” character here. This is becoming a trend since the reboot. Finally, can we get a conclusion to the whole “everyone going overemotional” arc soon?
Recommendation: Like I said, although there’s more “wrong” that “right”, that’s only quantity. Quality-wise, I’m still highly enjoying the story. You might too, but you should pick it up and find out.
