Marvel Super Hero Squad #2
Marvel Comics (April 2010)
WRITER: Todd Dezago
ARTISTS: Leonel Castellani (story 1) and Marcelo Dichiara
COLORS: Sotocolor
LETTERER: Dave Sharpe
ASSISTANT EDITOR: Mike Horwitz
EDITOR: Nathan Cosby
Three stories center around Valentine’s Day. The first finds Mystique, Screaming Mimi, and the Enchantress trying to woo the superheroes in a contest between each other to get the Fractals. The second story has Reptil disappointed that he didn’t get a valentine, as he unknowingly comes across a secret admirer. The third has the Squadies trying to tell the Hulk what Valentine’s Day is about.
What they got right: The art was in keeping with the show, but still looks like a comic book. The first story was pretty interesting. Watching each of the villainesses woo the heroes with their unique abilities made for a fun story.
What they got wrong: The last two, on the other hand, can’t make that claim. The third one really demonstrates my issues with SHS Hulk, and I’m not sure if I was supposed to feel bad for Reptil or not.
Recommendation: I’ve ordered one more issue, but so far I can only recommend this to fans of the show, mostly kids.
Tomorrow’s Comic: Mass Effect: Redemption #3
