Chat figures out that Emma is behind both Gwen’s delusions and Chat’s forgetting her relationship with Peter–and boy is she unhappy about it. It turns out Emma was jealous of Chat’s involvement with Peter, but seeing that she was about to lose her only friend in the world apologizes and turns herself in for her actions as the Silencer. While Chat is unsure if they have a future, Peter refuses to let her walk off and convinces her to start over again.

What they got right: First, my congratulations to Paul Tobin for finally breaking one curse. While most of his final issues in the MA line have been less than stellar, this was a really good story, and wrapped up the “B” plot arc that’s been part of the story since he took over the title, while hopefully leaving enough room to continue the Peter/Chat relationship into the reboot next month. At least he better be.

What they got wrong: What I’m going to call the “C” plot with Bullseye isn’t even touched upon this issue. Will it come up in Spider-Man (Marvel Adv.)? Also, a scene or dialog that tells us Emma unmessed Gwen’s head would have been nice. And there’s one curse he hasn’t broken–being stuck with bad art on the final issue. While not the worst “end artist” he’s had, in one scene Chat actually looks like an old Jewish mother stereotype. I wish I was kidding.

Definately NOT Best Scene of the Week

This is another case of me wishing the cover artist had done the interior. That’s a great Spidey on the cover.

Recommendation: If there’s more Peter/Chat in the reboot, and the story is as good as it has been since Tobin took on the series, I’m so going to look forward to it.

Awwwwwwwwwww.....

You may like or dislike the artwork as you see fit but… what the hell is an old jewish mother-stereotype looking like? I mean, I’m really sorry, but the Nazis killed off most of them in Europe some decades ago and the rest is hiding really well. so, I just don’t know.

You don’t watch much TV, do you? I’m pretty sure there are plenty of old Jewish mothers (only some of whom follow the stereotype–see The Nanny and various episodes of other shows and probably a couple movies) left in the world.

My main point is that in that picture Chat looks nothing like a teenage girl. Obviously the Best Scene nominee shows an improvement, and it’s hardly the worst art I’ve seen in an MA title, but it still wasn’t all that good.
