G-Man: Learning To Fly

Image Comics (second printing September 2010)

STORY/ART: Chris Giarrusso
“THE MIGHTY SKULLBOY ARMY” SEGMENT CO-WRITER: Jacob Chabot
COLOR ASSISTS/WEB & BOOK DESIGN: Dave Giarrusso
EDITOR: Branwyn Bigglestone

Ever since I read the second miniseries, Cape Crisis, I really wanted to see the original story. Luckily, Image republished the first volume as they released Cape Crisis as a trade. Here we get Mike’s origin story as G-Man, meet his friends, and as a bonus other stories involving parallel universes, costume changes, and a Christmas tree coming to life and stealing the G family’s car.

If you’ve ever read Giarrusso’s other work (including “Mini-Marvels” for Marvel comics) you already know how fun these stories are, accessible for kids but fun for adults who are kids at heart. If you haven’t read his stuff, I recommend this over Mini-Marvels. With original characters (not counting numerous cameos by the Savage Dragon) he’s able to just go his own way and the result is definitely worth the price.
