DC just released the trailer for the upcoming direct-to-video adaptation of Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One, which tells the early days of Batman’s war on crime.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
Not to worry, folks. This was from when Miller hadn’t been writing Bruce like he did in The Dark Knight Strikes Again or even worse, All-Star Batman & Robin. (Although from reading the Wikipeida description he has a habit of handcuffing bad guys and stripping them. What the hell? I’m hoping the part where Gordon cheats on his wife is also removed. Again, what the hell, Frank?) According to Comics Alliance, executive producer Bruce Timm (who of course was responsible for the “DC Animated Universe“) and directors Lauren Montgomery & Sam Liu want to make a proper adaptation of the story. Hopefully this will be more All-Star Superman and less Planet Hulk, trying to find a proper balance between adapting the important parts of the story without too much compression.
The movie will also contain a short featuring occasional Batman love interest (and flip-flopping crimefighter/thief) Catwoman, although no telling if this takes place in the same continuity as the movie, adapts a comic story, or will be it’s own piece. The release date is October 18th, but CA reports that it will debut at this year’s San Diego Comic Con on July 22nd. I’ll be curious to hear the response.
“Starring Benjamin McKenzie as Bruce Wayne, Bryan Cranston as James Gordon, Eliza Dushku as Catwoman and Katee Sackhoff as Sarah Essen.”
