The Star Trek episode “Assignment: Earth” was written as a pilot for a full series. While this spinoff never saw television. IDW decided to give it a four-issue miniseries that made me wish it had become a full series in either format.

Grabbing a comic at random (but focusing on Star Trek after yesterday’s article), this isn’t a strong fight, but it’s the one I’m going with.

Smokin’ Joe round 7

The Battlefield: Star Trek: Assignment Earth #3 (IDW Publishing, July, 2008) “My Name Is Legion”

The Promoters: John Byrne (writer/artist), Tom Smith (colorist), Robbie Robbins (letterer), and Chris Ryall (editor)

Long story short: Gary Seven and Roberta are looking for another appearance of tech that’s too futuristic for modern (read 1960’s) Earth. Along with Roberta’s new boyfriend (and her being knocked out cold twice), they find a cloning operation to create unemotional soldiers. The general behind the project is prepared to blow our heroes away…

Beta 5 teleported the clones to another planet where the lack of females will lead to a short lifespan (and a rather boring one). While Curtis is allowed to keep his memories, he dies in the war.
