The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #2
DC Comics (December, 2011)
CO-PLOTTERS: Ethan Van Schiver & Gail Simone WRITER: Gail Simone ARTIST: Yildiray Cinar COLORIST: Steve Buccellato LETTERER: Travis Lanham COVER: Van Schiver & Hi-Fi ASSISTANT EDITOR: Rickey Purdin EDITOR: Rachel Gluckstern
The bad guys frame the guys and Tonya as terrorists. There’s the possibility of a third presence within the “Fury” composite. But Ronnie and Jason better learn to get along when the shadow government sends a pack of drugged-out psychos dubbed “hyenas” to take down the Firestorms.
This comic makes me angry seeing as after Superman, Firestorm was my favorite DC Superhero. Ronnie is getting the shortest end of the stick (at least Jason has a friend, but Ronnie doesn’t even have that now although otherwise all three are in the same boat). The concept of both Firestorm characters of the “old” DCU is nonexistent here. And we have the “real governments of the world” (aka the Illuminati concept), which I thought we were getting away from. This should be getting better, but it’s getting farther from what I want in a superhero comic and in Firestorm.
I don’t think I’m going to make it to the end of the arc. The art is good, and I guess they’re doing a decent job with the story, but this is so much NOT what I want that I can’t really give it an unbiased review. I won’t try and I may just drop it entirely.

Heh, like me except reverse I think. We must be brothers separated at birth. 😉
Seriously, if I was to write it, I’d like to take FS out into space. His power level is such that I think he should do more on the cosmic level than a lot of the street-brawls he was normally involved with.
