Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #10
IDW Publishing (December, 2011)
WRITER: Jason Ciaramella ARTIST: Victor Santos COLORIST: Ronda Pattison LETTERER/CREATIVE CONSULTANT: Chris Mowry EDITOR: Carlos Guzman COVER “A” (shown): David Messina (art) and Giovanna Niro (color) COVER “RI”: Matt Frank
It’s one big monster battle between Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, and King Ghidorah. One of the combatants comes out on top just as the Evil Twins arrive with Batra and Rodan looking to make Godzilla their slave as well.
What they got right: One thing you better be able to do in a Godzilla story is be able to show a great battle. This issue delivers one major monster battle between Godzilla and his two biggest foes. We also have Woods showing some signs that he may be getting his act together finally when Allie becomes his big concern. Plus the return of the Evil Twins.
What they got wrong: I’m still not a fan of the art style. This is a personal preference when it comes to character models because the fight itself is well done. Still, I want to see if the team who does the “A” cover art can do as well with the inside art.
Recommendation: It’s everything the previous writers got right and none of what they got wrong. I’m liking this new writer.

I’m glad you like the book better now that it’s shed its rather blunt satirical asides. I don’t mind the art, but I’d like to see different takes on the various monsters too. Nobody’s breaking down doors at IDW to get to draw Godzilla, or what?
