With the events of Sonic Universe #36 behind them, our heroes move on to St. John’s treason trial. Here we get his full story, from how he became an Ixis wind magic user, to starting the Rebel Underground, and finally the fate of Hershey Cat. The court finds him guilty because he pretended to be serving the recognized authority but naturally Naugus pardons him. Meanwhile, Eggman has done some modifications to Mecha Sally. In the back-up story, Elias fails to convince his parents to escape with him and his wife Before he goes, however, the deposed ruler meets with an old friend of his father’s in hopes of starting a secret resistance movement against Naugus.
What they got right: Finally we get the full backstory of Geoffrey St. John and learn the fate of Hershey (and it’s one that could mean the character may return). It’s an interesting story.
What they got wrong: Not that it made me care anymore about the character. I’ve never liked St. John and I still don’t. Shoehorning a retcon about him becoming an Ixis wizard doesn’t help matters.
Recommendation: If you like Geoffrey St. John, this may be a dream book for you. If you’re like me and hate the character, it’s still worth checking out to see him fleshed out.

Sonic and Tails look a bit too mischievous there.
