Young Justice #21
DC Comics (December, 2012)
“PLAYERS” part 2 “Directly To Jail” WRITER: Greg Weisman ARTIST: Christopher Jones COVER ARTIST: Min Sung Ku COLORIST: Zack Atkinson LETTERER: Dezi Sienty EDITOR: Sarah Gaydos
Not much happens in the one Year One segment, so let’s stick with the comic’s focus, the Year Five event. Superman, Superboy, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, and Wonder Woman are trapped on the moon in crystal prisons but are able to break out with a little ingenuity. The villains also captured remain trapped while the heroes plot their next move. Back on Earth, the team deals with the appearance of Braniac and Nighwing and Wonder Girl convince Blue Beetle to at least join in the investigation.
I have nothing bad to say about this issue. Braniac’s redesign isn’t bad and seeing the heroes work together and plan their next move is what a team comic should do. The art is great as usual for this series. If THIS had been the route the New 52 had taken I would be buying more DC’s comics. Instead, this is the title ending in February, unless they’re planning to relaunch like they did the Batman: The Brave & The Bold series. Either way, it just points out more of DC’s failings.
