The original title according to the program sheet at Brass City Comic Convention 2012 was “What every aspiring comics professional writer & artist needs to know about Work For Hire!”, but that’s not where it stayed. Only four of us showed up for the panel run by former DC Comics associate Steven Bove. So at some point the discussion, which included previous BW Panelling panelist Alex Simmons, fell into an intimate chat between the five of us, discussing other things going on in comics. I changed the title for space and to reflect where the panel went to. Enjoy.
You can see the actual “Work For Hire” contract sample from the beginning via this PDF from the St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts. It’s a movie contract and not a comic one, but there are similarities. For more on Steven Bove, check out his website.
