Nightwing #9
DC Comics (June, 1997)
“Die Trying”WRITER: Chuck Dixon PENCILER: Scott McDaniel INKER: Karl Story COLORIST: Roberta Tewes LETTERER: John Costanza ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Darren Vincenzo EDITOR: Scott Peterson
Nightwing is swinging through the city when his line breaks and he ends up crashing into a mall. However, the mall is filled with thugs holding a child hostage…at the orders of Two-Face. Except the actual culprit was brought in by Soames, namely the Scarecrow!
What they got right: Well finally that kid Dick keeps having nightmares about is relevant. Is this some kid that got killed? Hopefully we’ll find out soon. It’s a nice fake-out and the art I usually come against kind of works once it’s determined to be Scarecrow’s doing.
What they got wrong: Nightwing’s GETTING too close to the truth? He know who’s responsible for the murders that led him here? How much closer does he need to be? Or is there another twist coming we don’t need?
Recommendation: This may be a good lo0k into Dick’s self-perspective. We’ll have to see next week when we look at the next part of the arc.
