Nightwing #11

“Fear Takes Flight” WRITER: Chuck Dixon PENCILER: Scott McDaniel INKER: Karl story COLORIST: Roberta Tewes SEPARATIONS: Jamison LETTERER: John Costanza ASSOCIATE EDITOR: Darren Vincenzo EDITOR: Scott Peterson
Soames wakes up with a present in his living room…the Scarecrow, tied up and beaten up by Nightwing, who is still fighting off the effects of Crane’s toxin. With neither Redhorn nor Blockbuster on his side, he decides to take out the latter after he sends goons to take the corrupt detective down. When Nightwing tries to interfere, Blockbuster uses his men to distract Nightwing and gives Soames the same treatment as the guys that drew Nightwing to Bludhaven in the first place…only Soames is still alive!
What they got right: I do like that the toxin had to run it’s course, which led to a freaky moment for Clancy. I like her and hope she stayed around awhile. Watching Soames’s karma (for lack of a better word) get the better of him was nice to see.
What they got wrong: Except I kind of liked him as he was, but I can see how Dixon might have run out of ways to use him in the comic. On the other hand, it’s what’s coming after that made me rethink getting this comic, but I think we get into that next week. Also, when did Soames pick up Clancy’s accent, even slightly?
Recommendation: A good finale to this arc and a good showing for Nightwing. A bit on the darker side but worth a read if you’ve been following the story. Otherwise, you might get into it and maybe it will convince you to check out the earlier issues but if you haven’t been following you won’t get as much out of it.
