With the exception of Transformers and a few 0dds and ends you see at The Clutter Reports, I’m not a huge merchandise collection. (However, I heard they’re coming out with a classic-era Godzilla figure in Japan’s SH Monsterarts line that I so wish I had money to get because it looks so darn cool! That and the MechaGodzilla, MechaGhidorah, and Rodan, but the first two there should have been obvious to anyone who has been following my Godzilla writings and that video.) I otherwise would rather get the stories…videos, comics, novels, various audio media…and when it comes to stuff from Japan that requires translation. Trust me, I have a few raw manga and they’re on the purge list except for Mazinger Z omnibus and the Spider-Man volumes I have.
Guyver merchandise is something I didn’t know existed but I’ve seen episodes of all three animated series (anyone who tells you the 90’s series was horrible isn’t wrong) and both movies. And as you know I’ve been reviewing the Viz translations of the comic, although I only have 10 issues of that left because Viz sadly ended short and nobody picked up the slack. I hear it’s still going on.
So because I cannot think of anything to discuss for tonight I bring you our old pal Matt Burkett and his Monstrosities tokusatsu V-log series as he goes over his Japanese and American Guyver merchandise.
Personally, and he and I have discussed this and agreed to disagree, I rather like the original American Guyver movie more than the second. It could just come down to personal taste but I wouldn’t mind seeing the version that was meant to be either. And I also didn’t care for Jimmie Walker’s attempt at rapping.
