Space Ghost, Moltar, and Zorak are watching old slides of Space Ghost beating Zorak when they come across one of their first ever meeting. When Tad goes to babysit for his mentor, Space Hunter, Hunter and his wife are kidnapped by Zorak’s forces to force Space Ghost and Hunter’s kids, Jan and Jayce, to give him an orb of incredible power. Our heroes must rescue Space and Mrs. Hunter while keeping the orb out of Zorak’s hands.

After that Brak shows up and makes Space Ghost read a comic he made about riding his horse to the store, borrowing from Brak’s stories growing up that was featured on the Coast To Coast spin-off Cartoon Planet.

What they got right: This being “Coast To Coast” Space Ghost is going to be slightly incompetent but otherwise this wasn’t a bad adventure that makes me wish for more action Space Ghost stories. (Instead we got the gritty reboot DC would put out sometime later. I’m pretty sure I reviewed those when they came out) It’s not only how Space Ghost met Zorak but the first time Space Ghost and Blip (Sr, his son played him in the show) teamed with Jan and Jayce so it’s their origin, too. As a bonus, flashback Space Ghost (the story drawn and colored like a Silver Age comic) is drawn in his concept art, the original design Alex Toth came up with for Space Ghost’s uniform. He doesn’t even have the Power Bands, which makes me think there’s another potential origin story here in the Coast To Coast style.

What they got wrong: Cute as the Brak comic was and they managed to bridge between the two stories well enough, it didn’t feel necessary. Maybe they were trying to pad out the comic, which is fine, but it does feel tacked on.

Recommendation: I would call this a must-have for any Space Ghost fan who doesn’t have problems with Coast To Coast, if only to see Space Ghost in his concept costume.
