BW Media Spotlight is about the end product–the comics, movies, shows, music, and video games. I tend not to focus on fan or creative drama unless it affects the end product. I think this is because fandoms bug me. While I don’t usually subscribe to “it’s just a story” there is a point where that goes too far. Death threats because you don’t like the way a story went? Did you people watch Misery and side with the crazy woman who tied the author to the bed, broke his legs, and demand he rewrite the ending of his novel? Because you weren’t supposed to!
And just when you think it couldn’t get worse, “we” have to take issue with females “invading” “our” turf. Oh, guy geeks can try and take My Little Pony out of the hands of little girls, but the likes of Janelle Asselin and Anita Sarkeesian have not only had their points of view challenged, which I have no problem with, but they’ve been threatened with rape. And it’s only the female critics that I’ve heard threatened with rape. Does anyone threaten to rape Chris Sims, Doug Walker, or James Rolfe? No? THEN WHY IS IT OKAY TO THREATEN WOMEN WITH RAPE! OR RAPING/KILLING THEIR CHILDREN! This is has also happened to a female game writer because some group didn’t like the end of one of the Dragon Age games. What is even the hell?
Blogger “Doctor Nerdlove” has collected many stories about the supposed bullied group and how they treat women. If you thought the “fake geek girl” was the worst we could do, read that article. Fellow geek guys, we DO have pretty girls among our ranks, and they deserve to be treated with respect or we start acting like the bullies we hate so much. Read that article and knock that crap off!
