Before the events of the Turtles In Time miniseries, Renet shows up before the Turtles know who she is and wisks them to another dimension to help her boyfriend battle in a deathsport that only one guy seems to like.
What they got right: Hey, it’s the origin of the Battle Nexus tournament. Eastman takes both writer and artist duties and he’s just as talented as ever.
What they got wrong: I thought this would explain why the Turtles are in prehistoric times in the Turtles In Time miniseries. It doesn’t, so why they bring the annual up there is beyond me. And who was doing the narration in the beginning? I can’t connect it to any of the characters, although if they said Renet I’d believe them.
Recommendation: Annuals are a good way for comic readers to get a clue about a character or series and this serves that goal very well. There’s no best scene nomination because it’s too well balanced so check this one out.
